Can't write about it

I have been pirated. And not the Nualas, the Allie books. I am busting my tail to get those books to ebook and out, while barely keeping my head above water, and that is the thanks of some "fan."

Yes. This may slow the third book. I am $$%^$##.

By . . . THEM? THEY pirated over 50 different versions of my books that I've been able to uncover. =And= short stories. I'm ready to load a freakin' shotgun.

The (fill in extremely unflattering descriptor) mentioned on the BVC list. I sent a takedown, but the files are still up.

My other works would have been bad, but these books are my children. I can't think.

Perhaps I should mention for readers that these torrent files often have code and malware on them? I won't be downloading to use them to speed up creating my files.

Also -- if the $%^&%$# who uploaded it edited the files so the story has changed?

Don't complain to me. You won't be talking about my book any longer. I'm not responsible for Frankenfish books.

send the site an invoice at $30 bucks a pop for downloads, and then, take them to small claims court.

Panana ISP, the email doesn't work from WhoIs.

turn them into the state Better Business Bureau and tell them about the lost tax revenue... that might get them going on it.

Forgot to ask --

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2013-04-20 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Did they get the new steampunk ones, too?

[identity profile] tylik.livejournal.com 2013-04-20 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, while trying to get them down, you might also consider that a lot of the projections show that having some amount of your work freely available increases exposure and sales. There's an awful lot we don't know about online distribution models yet.

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2013-04-20 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I know. But there are also stats that show if that boost fails, the difference between downloads and sales can kill the career -- can be the difference between living frugally and writing, and writing on Sunday. I don't have any margin. I didn't need this right now.

Thanks.

these are well-beloved books, a fandom waiting for their Phoenix resurrection, would be sad-mad at them being free & pirated.

She could release as free the Ducks store in this 'verse to good effect, but best to wait until #3 is ready for customers.

I'm so sorry! Is there anything I can do?

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2013-04-20 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I hesitate to mention their name to avoid giving them publicity, but they are bookos DOT org, in Panama, so they may be ignoring the DMCA letters they are being flooded with. People could write and point out that these books are in copyright and someone's living depends on them, but I don't know if it will do any good. The email to their ISP is "private" and can't be sent mail. (Quotes because for $49 apparently it is no longer private. So if you are hiding from a stalker? Don't trust WhoIs?/ICANN.)

Nothing may happen until someone like the people controlling Marvel Comics or some such goes after them.

Or a white hat takes their site down.

Ratbastards. May they have shingles on their gonads.

Thank-you for the laugh! Long week.
