Four Bars = No Texts Getting Out?

So, what is with AT&T? None of the texts I've sent in the past two days have actually gone out!

Or they are going out and telling me FAIL -- thus annoying friends.

Not happy with AT&T.

I had to dump AT&T last December after 10 years of faithful service. Seems we have 2 towers in our vicinity. Both of them were downgraded for repair and up grade. One of those towers is on the mountain and used a lot by ski patrol, climbers, and search and rescue. The Hurricane Sandy hit and east coast repairs took priority for parts and specialized labor. For 3 months I had to drive 16 miles to get a signal.

By December and there was no estimated time of a return of service I had already trained most of my friends and colleagues to use the land line so I got a prepaid phone from Verizon. No signal problems, great customer service and I'm saving $25 a month on 2 phones.

I will not have a smart phone. Can't justify the expense and i don't always want to be connected to the rest of the world 24/7.

I understand your woes.

Right now I have NO landline, so it's not a minor thing. Since I also have no income, I pay $20 a month for this, and can hardly beat it. But I am not impressed with their coverage, and will probably get something else when I can afford my own service.

In the meantime, AT&T has one big advantage in my family -- the locations of both family campgrounds, so to speak, are easier reached through texting than actual calls. AT&T works best around those two locations. So to get hold of my sisters when one of us is at a family location is much easier/possible with AT&T.

I'm with you about smart phones. Only a GPS tempts me, and since Apple went to theirs, zero interest. Finding a gluten free restaurant on a trip is also great, but I usually look online before leaving.

Some days it feels like progress is marching backwards.

I've drawn some lines in the sand about tech and social media so that I can live with myself and not half the world looking over my shoulder, and have time to write.

If I can create a private editing business for myself, I will do the same.
