A REAL Baby Cthulhu!

And you thought impending motherhood was tough... Go look fast at the baby, I have no idea how long Ev1.net will keep this link hot.

Eggs Hatching for Aurora the Octopus

Aurora with all eight of her arms held tight to her dream of motherhood.

Even when most any other expectant mom would have become discouraged, not Aurora the octopus. The aging Giant Pacific, a resident of the Alaska SeaLife Center in Seward, embraced her maternal instinct and was rewarded this week.

Her eggs finally began hatching. The first of thousands have burst out into pearly white, tear-shaped babies with huge eyes and stubby appendages.

They are so cute (yes, I think octopi are cute). But it's so sad that she's probably going to die as a result -- it's just too CHARLOTTE'S WEB for my comfort. Maybe the handfeeding will keep her going.

Yes, I cried when Charlotte died, too. But it doesn't hurt for kids to learn the hard facts of life. I can see the teacher trying to explain this--"Octopii only live four years, and Aurora is a very old octopus. We don't know how long she'll live, but they're feeding her and she's still waiting to see her babies hatch..."

My sister teaches second grade. I couldn't do it. I just couldn't do it for 25 kids--and then another 25 next year, and THEN--

He's so cute, who'd think he'd grow up to be a god of destruction?

And the star of HELLO, CTHULHU...
