Why the Affordable Care Act Matters to Me

In my case, I spent my life savings staying alive. When poor catastrophic health insurance cost more than my rent, I had to wing it--knowing I would never get insurance again.

Because of arthritis.

Think of that. Insurance companies didn't even start on what made me so ill. Arthritis will keep you from getting a policy.

Only a bestseller or a MegaMillion win will allow me to someday retire...if I can earn enough to stay alive.

With the Affordable Care Act, I hope to have a safety net, so that perhaps I can rebuild a career to keep me going until the end of my life. I'm not the only artist to whom this matters so much.

The ACA matters to me.

I also hear that under the Act, its not considered to be a pre-existing condtion if you are female... which is a nice thing.

Yes. Another bonus. My major concern at this point is that I don't have an outside job and no way to estimate income, so no idea how to approach finding a policy except as cheap as possible and still useful. I've had my fill of 5000 dollar deductibles, and nothing counts.
