So...do I need a series title other than the Night Calls books?

Yes, mentioned on Facebook....

So....getting ready to slap things on the second book, on registrations, etc. There has never been a title for the Night Calls books, other than the Night Calls books, or the Alfreda books.

Do I need something other than the Night Calls series?

Most things don't suggest the niche Allie occupies. The Awakening Land is taken ;^) and having something of magic seems important. Allie is someone who is listening for threat, and for support, from the Other Side. Hence the Night Calls series. Her name alone could limit her audience.

Any suggestions? No harm, no foul--just brainstorming.... But running out of time.

Yes I think a more general title would help. I am putting on the thinking cap.

Night something...... Something Nights......

I think a series title makes sense. I don't know that Night Calls is a bad one. But something that distinguishes it from everything else is a good idea. I'll think too.

I am thinking that perhaps a bridge is needed, linking the call of the night to the greater job Allie has chosen. A friend made a suggestion, and I am playing with the idea.

There are night calls...sounds from beyond the light.

Someone rooted in light must listen...must be there to answer what crawls from the dark.

Or something like....

Practitioners of the Frontier?

(Of course, I want to call it "Frontiers in Practice", riffing of the "Frontiers in..." series of scientific journals.)

Little House on the Other Side? (Okay, now I'm just getting silly.)

{Grin}

I think we are going to go with Night Calls II, or whichever it is, trusting to the universe that there will be more.

And we have votes for "Can she survive the apprenticeship when Death is the master?" for a tag line at the top of the back cover...

"Death's Apprentice" would get plenty of notice, but it's also been used. "Defender of the Mysteries" sounds too cryptic. "Woodland Wizard," maybe? Does the title of book 3 hold any clues?

Only to her latest discoveries--part of the fun with Allie is getting there. I don't know if we will reach the end of her tale (of course I know how it ends.) But we'll learn a lot about my quirky vision of magic in early America.

The working title is now Spiral Path.

I think we're going with Night Calls II for series reference for Kindred Rites.

I like Spiral Path ... had been toying with something about practitioners of the wise arts.

Anything we come up with could be used in marketing. I appreciate the ideas! Being the publisher is hard work, and raining from the writing, turns out.

Yeah, I didn't expect labyrinths to be so important in the current book, but there you are...
