Forgotten Masters of Science Fiction and Fantasy--Vonda N. McIntyre

Have you read any of the works of Vonda N. McIntyre?  Dreamsnake? The Exile, Waiting?  Superluminal?  The Moon and the Sun?

You should.  You can.  Over at SF Gateway, Kevin McVeigh explains why you should know and love the works of Vonda N. McIntyre.

The Moon and the Sun is being filmed right now.  Be in the know!

It is none of those listed, but her novel The Exile, Waiting is a foundation-stone in my notion of what science fiction is. (And forty years later, Vonda sometimes sends me email. Squee!)

It is rather astonishing to get mail from Vonda, isn't it? Thanks for typo catch!

Yes!

Actively pushing people readers should know about, once again...

Dreamsnake is such a wonderful book. A great world creation. And good female lead.
I loved what we now call the biotech with the gene engineered snake venom.
It is a book that survives numerous rereads (I must see if I can get it in e form.)

It is, isn't in? I've carried it a long time.

Who would think that I'd buy a book with a snake on it? At that time, it was a big step!

I had read the original novella. When the novel came out I was so impressed that the 'join' at the end of the novella was so unnoticeable. I'd love to see more of that world -love the musk oxen.

I had missed The Moon and the Sun and will need to remedy that.

Her Star Trek novels are also of much higher quality than the average, and I reread the earlier ones with pleasure (I didn't follow her into other series than the original).

I think that Vonda is like a lot of us--she does her best with everything she does. As I told someone once, I didn't do any less of a job on an Elfquest story than on my own work.
