Cat Servant Redux

I have reached the point of cat slave.

I held the bowl for him so he could stay in his warm basket and eat some of the meat.

No clue if he's just cold.  I may have to get him a fuzzy bathroom rug (with a rubber back so I don't slip) and place it before his bowls.  But he did eat over half his dinner, so I won't force a pill down him yet.  Am considering starting Pepcid once a day, however.

I gave Ari Pepcid for about a year. He didn't mind it much (unlike the Tapazole, which had to be given as a transdermal ear gel because he Would Not Swallow It). It did seem to help his appetite.

Kind thoughts for your old guy. He's very handsome, if that's him in the icon.

Yes, that's an older photo of him and his uncle/older brother, Max. Max took Pepcid for a while. I've given Merlyn a few but have not been religious. I may try being religious for a time and see if it helps. I'm under a lot of stress, and he may be carrying some of it.

I don't have a lot of photos of Merlyn alone. He knows when I am taking pics and hates, hates it. Scowls and spits at me.

Cats can tell, for sure.

Our cats may leave when they see the camera, but they don't have quite such a negative opinion of it as to spit. Obviously Merlyn is a gentleman of spirit.

you're doing 1/4 of a pill, right? I'm pretty sure that's the dose I've been told to start with.

Yup.

He's very clever, too--he instantly knows the difference between the Pepcid and the appetite stimulator. He stops fighting when he knows it's the Pepcid. The other is probably bitter.

My old guy has taken a liking to roast turkey -- not the kind in the cat food can. I don't mind him eating it, but it's not helping his loss-of-weight problem. He's seventeen, and in reasonably good health, but ornery!(Oh, truth in advertising: he's always been ornery!)

Well, Merlyn is uninterested in the baby food I've gotten him or any other kitty crack. Next will be sharing my chicken sauted in sesame oil. He already licks the EVOO from the bowl when he can find any.

Merlyn will be 18 around August 5th.

Ross sells many colors and small to large sizes of memory foam bath mats that are soft-fluffy and have rubber backing. I'd never use them in a bathroom (soaking up moisture and fermenting...) but as cat traps they are FANTASTIC. Recommend hang-dry rather than risking heat on the rubber backing.

I have a little one I used in the bathroom I should give to him, and get a shorter foam-backed one for me! Racking up more food for your gang...

maybe the coating helps? I'm pretty sure the Pepcid is bitter, per her reaction and internet CRF sites.

I have to grind either one for HeyGirl, and she finds them each terribly offensive.

The HEB version has been cutting fairly cleanly, so the coating may help a lot.
