Be careful speaking in front of your appliances
I may have made a slight mistake. Never think "Wow, this XXX has worked for YY years!"
Because then the next time you use it, something funky happens. My crock pot, which is old enough to have a graduate degree and leave home, made some lovely lamb bone broth for me in the last 24 hours. But I did notice a slighted burned odor. I thought this was the Shaman baking. He doesn't clean the house pizza stone until it's well done.
Not entirely.
Turns out the gelatin oozed up, lifted the lid a hair, and trickled over the lip of the pot and into the aluminum heating element, pooling down inside. Not a lot, which I mopped up. But you know how oil rubberizes when it is hit with more heat? And this is close to the heating element (enclosed, but there's a nut on top of it, forming that well.)
So...wondering if it is safe to use...as in starting a fire. They don't make them like this anymore, sadly, although I suppose I can let dough rise in the crock. I was thinking about a Consumer's Report online membership for research purposes. Might be time!
