Writing for Amtrak
Mar. 17th, 2014 06:10 pmWell of course I was going to apply for the Amtrak Residency.
TRAINS! TRAVEL! WRITING!
But Amtrak decided to have Hollywood lawyers write their grant of rights.
I was willing to write something for them just for this event, and submit it, knowing I would lose it, because this would be tremendous fun and actually feed into my next work (which takes place in Texas, Michigan, and worldwide).
But then I got to the part of the Grant if Rights that wanted me to promise that I would allow access and photos, etc. for all applicants (including the other people in my story) and they lost me there. My mom is 82 years old and in poor health. I don't mention her by name, but talking about "my mother" probably counts with their lawyers.
Which is too bad, because it's a nice train story. You'll still get to read it--I'll put it up at Book View Cafe. But I'll just save up for a train trip instead of entering.
Because there are still a few of us left who have this thing about privacy.
