It's still only 28F. Where's that 39F they promised us? We have an election today!

Should have hit the hot tub earlier!

Merlyn was yowling up a storm earlier--I think he felt it coming.

I know it's not for the sun bunnies, but this overcast makes me feel cooler, and keeps the numbers from soaring. Wishing for rain, but not holding my breath. Not in the forecast.

Good hard rain, sky black enough to turn on the lights in the parking lot, and - unfortunately - wind coming from every direction. Merlyn knew it was coming; he was nuts this morning.

Be safe, everyone.

We're only on the edge of this, but some of you are in the crosshairs.

Here's Texas Stormchasers' take on it.

High winds in the Austin area, people -- extreme fire danger.

Be careful!

(Why, yes, there is a dangerous blizzard in the panhandle right now. Don't like the weather? Move three hours in another direction....)

I can smell rain, and hear occasional thunder.

No rain yet.

Hoping. (Creek is no longer running, and trees look sad.)

We're having a nice rumble-fest out there right now, with steady rain. If the wind is, indeed, now coming from the east, then we have a lot of rain yet tonight. A line of storms is almost on top of us.

And a chance for still more tomorrow!

Folks in the Texas Hill Country, the fog is THICK in some places. I can see across the street, but not past the playground equipment on the other side. Remember, LOW BEAMS if you need lights. Otherwise the fog will become a mirror.

Saw clouds like these a half hour ago, nestled in a rolling blanket of thunderheads sweeping by. Turns out my new camera needs something to take pictures on -- it doesn't come with a small cell! -- but I tried to photograph the clouds with my phone. As I have not transferred from this phone yet, we'll see later if I got a photo.

Now, lots of thunder, dark, nothing for a half hour...and then rain hit the window. Don't know if it will turn out to be real. I actually went and laid a quilt over my windshield -- quarter-sized hail reported west of here -- but will there be enough rain to wash the dust off my car?

If not, tomorrow I take sandpaper out there and sand the one tiny rust spot from someone scratching my trunk. With luck, the dry days are ending soon.

EDIT: Did not even get the quilt wet, only as damp as a humid day. Sigh.

Beverly Hale has ironed in Austin, TX. She says: "Après moi, le déluge."

Since we could actually use this water, we can hope she is correct!

In the meantime, here is a snow icon to tide you over.

It is sleeting. There was some earlier, but it was melting on contact with the ground. After a bit of confused light rain, it's changed back to sleet -- and this time it is sticking to the edge of the rain barrel, to the grass and fallen twigs and leaves. So, maybe I'm not going to brave the path to the hot tub. (This a.m. I fortunately noticed that the arborists were back and parked on the side yard, heading for the hack-berry tree on the lot line -- next to the hot tub. I am glad I wore the robe!)

I wish we could have a snow day. Texas schools don't do those, do they? I hear from my sisters that Indiana schools don't have them anymore, either. They need those school dollars.

Time to heat rice sacks and sleep.
