A good question....

Does this Michael Ventura story hint at why half the nation clings to President Bush?
"... The question of identity rides on another question: Why, in spite of a disastrous economic and foreign policy record, does George W. Bush appeal deeply to nearly half our population – people largely as well-meaning and desirous of peace as the other half?
The answer is: Bush feigns certainty."

Also a reminder that 1) Stirling Silliphant was a damned good writer**, and 2) TV drama used to contain more ideas that it does now.
**I remember seeing Sillphant and other screenwriters/scriptwriters on the TV talk shows--Merv, Mike, Johnny,Steve Allen. Do you see them on TV anymore?
kaygo, showing her age.
Where did the greats go?
One thing cable, in theory, gives us the chance to see, is a bigger spectrum--and I hope, in that variety, more quality!
Ventura is occasionally nuts, but more often he nails things right on target. He did an incredible column on tobacco, once, and wrapping yourself in death/smoke as a means of separating yourself from others. His column on "Mists of Avalon" on TV was awesome, too.
