Dreaming Again --

I am a channel for the creative power of the universe. (My Monday Intention from some of those power of positive thinking folks....)

Let's see, now...dreams.... (Just put the ADD patch on -- hurray! If I could only always remember it.) Sleep was bad Thursday and Friday night -- like waking every 30 minutes. Yes, you DO get sorta psychotic sleeping like that. Saturday a little better, but not a lot. So I finally surrender, when a stack of stuff that usually helps is not helping, and email my doctor. Who says increase the dose of XX. So I do.

Intensely vivid dreams, large chunks of....are you ready for this? (Icon is explained!) A sequel to HIDDEN FIRES, one of the NUALA books.

No, S, you may not have a sequel to HIDDEN FIRES unless enough E-books sell to justify a sequel. I just write too slowly, most of the time.

It was very strange to suddenly have this huge story just POURING out at me. All this stuff my backbrain has apparently been writing for years, and sitting on, waiting for me to heal so it could tell the forebrain about things.

Now -- my cable is hosed again, so time to call Time Warner.

Come on, write it!

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2010-09-28 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
I am an awfully slow writer -- or I was. Wouldn't that be a weird bonus? To now write faster, and maintain or improve quality?

Supposed to be fifties tonight...wonder if I can pry a window open?

[identity profile] sartorias.livejournal.com 2010-09-28 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
That would be great--just cut loose and go for it!

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2010-09-28 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
If I can somehow conquer the sleep problem, then I will have the strength to try. I will certainly give it my best!

[identity profile] sheilagh.livejournal.com 2010-09-28 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
got an audio recording device?

maybe you could at least verbally sketch out the story arch so that you can nibble away at the story!

WANT

er

hi :)

my dream tonight, from that nap that prevented me from seeing your map email, had my cutie chiropractor, crossed with Nathan Fillion, being my date, only we couldn't make out "again" right then because he wanted to be sure to meet my parents. awwwww. (also? weird! hah)

*hugs*

Not a bad dream, actually. Has potential! ;^)

I know no less than three people with the initial S who would probably like more Nuala books.

And I do have a tape recorder around here somewhere, It's so small, I just need to figure out where it is....

St Anthony?

[identity profile] sheilagh.livejournal.com 2010-09-28 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
I've had huge, huge luck with lighting a candle to the voodoo loa (wink) St Anthony :)

Re: St Anthony?

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2010-09-28 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
Hummmmm. I have been known to pray to St Jude occasionally -- now, I was thinking about asking Ganesha for a bit of help. You're recommending St. Anthony -- which one of the St Anthonys? Do you know?

I am open to shamanic suggestion and influence, but not so sure about asking the loas. I got a half-dozen steps into the Marie LaVeau house in New Orleans, during one of the WorldCons. The hostility of the house, of the charms hanging on the walls, was so oppressive, I had to leave. Of course, that could be the people running the house and not Marie LaVeau at all. But it makes me a little hesitant to ask her loas for assistance.

mixed up joking, mea culpa!

St Anthony is actually Catholic, not voodoo/loa, although I think of him that way, since I don't traffic with much of the rest of the Saint pantheon.

I only know of one St Anthony, patron saint of lost objects (thus, candle for St Anthony to find the lost tape recorder, or if you have a microphone for your computer, probably some application for your PC that might be free, somewhere out there?)

Actually, in Brazil each loa has a saint it is paired with -- Catholicism is very entwined with Candomble (the African deities are paired with Catholic Saints). Which is what I was thinking of....

There's a crop of them! But I think you are talking to Anthony of Padua. The looking for a program on line has possibilities. We'll see. I may just outline for now, since these things came to me. I may find the rest of the tape recorder!

Padua, yes!

[identity profile] sheilagh.livejournal.com 2010-09-28 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't realize there were so many!

Re: Padua, yes!

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2010-09-28 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I knew there was more than one, but I didn't know there were this many, either!

O O O Nuala Yes Please. (Jumping up and down and wriggling) How many e-book do I have to personally buy?
Does the e-book of Fires have the map in it? My PB is at the 'read by handfulls' stage!

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2010-09-28 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe you should encourage friends who like SF with a touch of political intrigue and romance to give it a try? (Not TMI either -- these were back when the SF audience was assumed to be mostly male, so I had to be careful there wasn't too much girl stuff in it. I slipped lots of characterization in, though!)

Yes! The original map is in there, with a new one of the HIDDEN FIRES map to show the desert Livia and her family cross. It's a line map, so you can see what I drew for myself.

Now, go work off some of that energy writing a happy review over at Amazon! ;^)

I just found out --

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2010-09-30 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Vonda put up a large copy of the map over at Book View Cafe, for people to reference while reading the free offerings, so you can go look at it there!

Oooh. A Nuala sequel? Begging here. I want want want to read it now! Find the tape recorder and start talking, please! I have my old paperback copies but may go get your ebooks for the new map!
Yours,
Jenny Schwartzberg

Already have been doing that - for several years. will continue...

And keep fingers crossed.

Nuala just feels so real. Fires is one of the books that I reread to encourage myself to believe that Homo sap will manage to survive its current idiocy. Of course Nuala shows that there are bigger challenges ahead for the species!

Oh, yeah --

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2010-09-29 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
The stuff coming at me is only subplot (although the romance readers will be happy with some of it!) but other parts of it are appalling. This is about Rex Dielaan's war, and I had no idea what was seething under a couple of the clans, just ready to explode.

Who would think that sharing food during an expected famine could cause all this....

Re: Oh, yeah --

[identity profile] 6-penny.livejournal.com 2010-09-29 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)

Dielans war .... oh my. Still in Daramae's time ... double ooohs:
Do I have to come to Texas and cook and clean for you to encourage the book to get written?

Re: Oh, yeah --

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2010-09-29 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Well -- I've decided I've got to start having notes to myself -- I can see that this book will have more POV than I've ever done, and they have to be good ones. Especially if they are so-called bad guys. So often bad guys are just frightened, or planning to make sure their gang comes out on top if things are going to upend. No comfort to whom they hurt, but I am in a position to force my characters to grow up or else!

Don't have to come tidy up yet -- just keep fingers crossed it sells well enough that I am writing for a living and not as a hobby after working, sleeping, cooking macro food and recovering from all three activities....
