Gluten battles...another perfect basket from the freezer to the trash!

Just grumbling, you can ignore this...

Tossing from the freezer. Hans Natural Chicken Sausage with Sweet apples -- has gluten. Suspicious of the guacamole from Costco in the freezer. Beginning to wonder about chocolate chips which said only that they contained soy...they pass muscle test, but something is after me. Grumble.

I have this horrible feeling that anything I still have that did not arrive in a Bob's Red Mill or Lundberg bag -- like all the bulk, even from Lundberg -- may have to leave the house. The only question is, toss or offer to friends?

If I can only get the house clear, I feel more than half the battle is won. Then, if I have to buy only things marked gluten-free...I'd better come up with a bestselling series! ;^) Good thing I like to cook.

I'd give to friends :)

If it is in cans or bottles, I will. It's the bulk stuff that is questionable. Especially if I don't know how long, say, the corn meal has been in the freezer. I couldn't have corn until last summer. And I could not bake, because bread kept upsetting me.

Now we know why. ;^)

I have to check things soon, because I keep pushing back trying tomatoes again, and if I let the Muir Glen tomatoes expire, it will be Very Sad.

I hate wasting anything, but especially food. Old, ingrained lesson. But perhaps ten dollars of bulk should just leave, and then I start over with a clean slate?

You could see if there's a local food bank or charity that will take perishables.

Gluten really is insidious. Even things labeled "gluten-free" can turn out to be made in the same vats as wheat products. :(

The ones I've talked to take it only from stores or restaurants they have a relationship with -- which makes sense. They are sure of expiration and handling that way.

"Insidious" is the word. And since my levels are still pretty high even after going 95% free, apparently my system is very serious about this. It sounds great to say you cook everything from scratch -- unless you have to work an 8-5. More incentive for coming up with selling ideas....

we'd probably use some of it :)

You probably did this already and I missed the post, but did you toss all your cosmetics and stuff like deoderant that has wheat/gluten in it? Lots of shampoos have "wheat germ" and all kinds of wheat derived things in it to thicken. It's easy to wash your hair and get a smidgeon in your mouth.

Have not done it yet, but wondering if I'll need to do so. I already suspected that all the lipsticks would have to go into the "Scare for a Cure" makeup box. For deodorant (which I don't seem to need much eating mostly macro) I was using High C over E -- it's older, may not be gluten-free. There's a gluten-free cosmetologist down at Whole Foods downtown. May need to see her.

Did you get my email about the tables?
