AVG Saga Continued....

Well, they lied -- you cannot download the Free version without disrupting your Internet Security Suite. I can delete the entire thing and install the free version, or run commando. Installation demands the new license number, otherwise.

I think I will power down the machine and make a calm, informed decision tomorrow. As opposed to deleting AVG in a fury.

Please picture me strangling the stuffed spirochete seen above.

Perhaps try Avast for antivirus? I run Avast and Comodo concurrently, with no problems at all, and I've been using Avast for my AV program for the last 6 or so years and had -0- infections on any of my machines thus far. The home version of Avast is free, just requires an email registration once every 14 or so months (and they don't spam your email), and it updates all the time but without the need to buy a subscription. I've never had a complaint with it.

I'll look into it. Once I have to delete what's in the machine, it's a new ball game! Thanks!

You use Comodo and Avast! simultaneously with no problems? Systems that do virus checking usually advise not to run more than one type. Do you turn off the Comodo virus checking?

I use Avast antivirus and Comodo Firewall & Defense+. Though, I suppose I technically have 2 virus check programs, because I also have AdAware, and that got AV capability added in several updates ago.

I used AdAware on a previous machine, it's pretty good. I was just thinking about it today.

what applications do you run that are windows-only? I've absolutely LOVED ubuntu/linux for its ease of maintenance...

I have a friend who wants to switch me over to Linux. I just can't afford that big an economic changeover. And not sure I have the mental strength yet to make the switchover. I run fairly basic programs -- Quicken, Word/Office, Dreamweaver 3, Photoshop 6, Palm datebook...that kind of thing.

I'd go Mac if I could afford a new machine on that level.

I run commodo and malwarebytes -both free, and have had far less trouble than I had the year that I had bought Mcafee. Mcafee was dreadful.

Someone else recommended comodo/commodo as well. I need to figure out what works together to cover the most things. Don't want to return to McAfee after they could not transfer to my new machine.
