The Sale is still on, but no guarantees how long...

Fires of Nuala is still available at 99 cents, to introduce new folk to the series. That price will not remain forever. (For example, if no one over at Barnes and Noble tries it soon, then I will assume that NOOK readers fear that sale books are no good, and raise the price there back up.)

Amazon readers know it's good, but the new algorithm means that the other two cannot be found. My other children need more reviews!

So -- the sale will not last forever. If you've been planning to try it, head on over to Book View Cafe and give it a try! (Why Book View Cafe? No middleman -- a writer gets 95% of the cover price at Book View Cafe.)

And yes, work continues on the new Book View Cafe bookstore. We thought we had it, but turned out there was a slight hitch with the software -- it could not do something we really wanted it to do. So -- need a different shopping cart.

Well, I do occasionally buy Nook books, but I bought it at BVC, so. I hate DRM. I love BVC.

And a better cart system would be great.

Yeah, I'm leaving the DRM-Free at BVC as a perk to buying there. I'd rather do all of it that way, but I didn't realize how easy it is to break, so thought that with a larger market at Amazon, perhaps I should have it DRM there?

Why worry? Pirates do their own scanning, they don't even steal books already formatted as ebooks. Very strange.

And genre books don't seem to sell as well at B&N. Also strange.

The new Cart was THIS CLOSE to release. Then we discovered that it could not handle writers doing their own certificates for sales and gifts. Big problem.

Have no idea when it will be done. My job is trying to keep the events up, and mentoring and editing.

And writing Chapter 12 of Allie! She's explaining to someone how they didn't command something to rise -- he commanded it to resurrect.

I love language! I can't wait until Allie's vocabulary grows more.

Well, I'm pretty sure that pirates do both (and putting together book scanners is a pain in the rear) - but it's harder to trace scanned in books back to the original purchaser.

Looking forward to the next Allie book!

Makes sense -- but the scanned stuff looks like crap. Why would anyone want to read that? If you cannot afford the book, request it from a library! That's what they're for!

[identity profile] tylik.livejournal.com 2012-01-25 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
That depends on the technology - ideally, you scan it, OCR it, and then allow people to submit corrections.

The point isn't really about affording it, at least for me. (But then, I pay for my books. Though I occasionally get bootleg ebooks of books I already own, which is likely though not assuredly legal. And keep in mind, I'm living on a grad student stipend.) The point is to have an ebook in a portable format. Amazon's control of the ebook market really bothers me, and I don't like DRM'd ebooks, period. Plus, a lot of the books I want aren't available.

I think a lot of book pirating is more about convenience, having choices, and having control of your books than it is about money.

Amazon's control bothers me, too. Which is why my book headlines at BVC, and is now at Nook, and Wizard's Tower.

I wish I didn't have to cater to Amazon, but most of my money comes from there.

I need to propose a deal to people. More reviews at B&N and Amazon, and I'll write faster or put up Facebook fan pages for Nuala and Allie.

Facebook is another necessary evil.

B&N doesn't have the quantity of reveiws that Amazon has. You learn a lot from reviews...

I know. I need to do a post on Nook readers reviewing.

And a post for the other books over at Amazon.
