So Why Hasn't Someone Designed a Better Condom?

It hasn't changed much since the 1840s. It was designed to be acceptable -- just barely -- in hopes of discouraging promiscuity. We have spent millions, billions trying to find a cure for AIDs, much less any other sexually transmitted disease. Why no money for condom research?

The writer of this article asks Why??

To be fair, they're thinner, tougher and transmit sensation better then they used to.

But I'm not sure what you could do short of glue to make them stay on (ouch!) or design a harness...

edit: Well, there is the female condom "Reality" (or whatever it's called now)...

I wonder if a drop of spandex would work? They're putting a drop of it in women's clothing now, allowing jeans, etc. to expand slightly (depending on the %) and then pull back into position. Could it work mixed with latex?

Do they make non-latex condoms? For those allergic to latex?

Shopping for a good brand seems like an important thing for someone to do in advance. And finding one that fits comfortably and doesn't slip too much! I was planning to check out reviews somewhere -- you gotta figure someone has rated them. There was a companion article near this one rating so-called EX condoms, and there was a vote for a Japanese brand?

They do make non latex condoms but they don't stretch much.

A regular condom can enough water to be larger then your head without leaking - I don't think they need to stretch much.

The trick with spandex is that it pulls back into shape. I was thinking there would be less trouble with losing them if they stretched and clung comfortably, and did not come off until you chose to peel them off.

The complaints I hear most, other than that they diminish pleasure too much, is either too tight at the base or they come off too easily. The first, you need the biggest size possible. The second, they need to work on a bit.

The person who solves that first problem and keeps them still excellent for disease and pregnancy protection will make a million bucks -- quickly.
