Records....

Last night, when I thought about a short post, it was 11:30 pm, 93 degrees F., and 103 degrees heat index. We've been running between 106-110 degrees in heat index (that's how hot it feels, as opposed to the actual mercury--let's get that humidity in there!) Sixth driest June on record. I started watering trees this week. The high pressure dome on the state may move next week, allowing rain to slip into the forecast.

No, folks of the northlands, we don't think you're wimps. We have a totally different scale, that's all. We actually have been known to pray for hurricanes....

Other records worth noting:

1) A 13 year old Burmese can projectile vomit three feet, from a 3 foot perch, if facing out of the bathroom as opposed to toward one of the sinks. And then mosey to the opposite side of the bedroom, of course...

2) To those "Noodlers" of the south--perhaps it'a time to start using high test line...

I'm so tired...and I'm having a party tomorrow. Time to get moving.

I shudder to consider the circumstances under which you made this discovery...

The funny part is, I had just showered and dressed, and had paused in the bedroom to double-check something in my copy of Howl's Moving Castle, because I wanted to recommend the movie--and then I heard this ghastly noise from the bathroom. And I'm the only human in the place, but it sounds human. It could have been much worse--at least all the food was not really digested. Soft triangles are easier to get up than a lot of things.

But, between this and the kitchen floor after cooking for the party, why did I pay to have the house cleaned? 8^)

Word to the wise...don't be eating breakfast while reading [livejournal.com profile] alfreda89 kitty mishap posts.

Yes, I must put disclaimers before kitty adventure posts....8^)

It's actually RAINING here! That's right. RAINING!

Send it on!

ONLY fellow Texans understand why rain in July is so weird and exciting. We had an hour slow soaking rain yesterday, and I heard thunderstorms and saw evidence of rain this morning! Whee!

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2005-07-02 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, I'm having a pool party in four hours, and I still wish we were having a brief thunderstorm, as long as it kept pushing through. Estimated high, 103, thunderstorms possible afternoon...which means heat index...we won't write it down.

[identity profile] reudaly.livejournal.com 2005-07-02 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm going to be working in a movie theater all day - I can ignore heat index. 8-) But I can already feel the humidity... ick...

See you next month at ArmadilloCon!

Heat Index, etc.

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2005-07-05 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Hope it was comfortable, and a good movie.

I stayed in the shade until after 4 pm, when the house shade started creeping over the water again.

Don't know - I've seen the last 5 minutes of Batman Begins 18 times, but not the 2 hr. 25 min leading up to it. But yes, it was cool and comfortable.

Watching storms roll in now. 8-)

Send rain! SEND RAIN---or else this tree will never flower again!!!

It was nice while it lasted - I hope it comes your way!

there ain't nothin' in the Gulf. Pitiful. We need a good hurricane, tropical depression, something. My magnolia is looking sad.

wonder where they got enough tabasco for all that fish?

And they were promising us more storms this year, too.

I'm not a big catfish eater, since it's usually breaded and fried, and I don't do breaded now. I wonder how it would be with a nice sour cream dill sauce...

I've been a vegetarian since 1990. My dad, on the other hand, would just take a fork to that thing.

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2005-07-05 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, you are a serious veggie--as in nothing with a face? I know those who will eat scaled and feathered vegetables, but no beef or pork.

Catfish is popular down here, but I think it tastes like whatever it was eating...

[identity profile] zara-elis.livejournal.com 2005-07-02 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, I hope someone really enjoys catfish. And I really hope it wasn't the sight of that giant fish that caused you cat to vomit.

May you wake up refreshed and energized tomorrow and may your party be wonderful.

Thanks. And whatever is that icon? I don't have my glasses on, so it's....what? Melting?

[identity profile] zara-elis.livejournal.com 2005-07-03 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
It's my photo--Shelter from the Storm. The rain soaked blush rose with a spider hiding in it. You've seen it before on my blogspot. Granted, it was a bit larger there.

Shades of Georgia O'Keefe.... 8^)

[identity profile] rolanni.livejournal.com 2005-07-04 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Hope the party went well and you're all rested up...

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2005-07-05 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
It was a good party--and so was the mini-party the next day, for those who were working on the movie DEADBACKS and couldn't come Saturday.

But I am tired. The doctor's office, or Fed Ex, or the Lab (the story varies) screwed up the blood work going out, so now I'm AGAIN on antibiotics designed to reactivate the LBb--and it's doing a $%$#@ good job. Haven't had the heart to write about it. Hands cranky.

another blood draw tomorrow, sheesh...

[identity profile] zara-elis.livejournal.com 2005-07-05 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. That's a very kind and flattering compliment.

I would never dare to compare my work with that of such a wonderful and talented artist, but I do admit that I like to look for the natural beauty around us--the stuff we all take for granted and hardly ever notice, even though it's always there. Or I suppose, quoting Georgia O'Keefe,I like to take notice of ?the wideness and wonder of the world as I live in it.?

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2005-07-05 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I like interesting spiders, too--my spider goddess thing, the Weaver of the World...

Keep taking pictures.

[identity profile] zara-elis.livejournal.com 2005-07-05 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
You don't have to worry about me when it comes to taking pictures. I'm definitely addicted.

I just ordered a new camera to add to my bag. Ok, I got a couple of lenses too. (I do love my toys.) They should be here in a couple of days--plenty of time for me to learn how to use them before trekking off to Scotland. I thought about getting an iPod for storing the photos until I got home, but I'll be saving money and toting my laptop with me instead. Which is fine, since my writing is going with me too.

It seems there are a couple of chapels in Scotland that have histories that mesh well with the background and story in Dark Light. Research, yippee!

Now, I just have to figure out how to sell my photos so I can make enough money to pay for my camera equipment and, just maybe, my computer stuff too. Though the cameras and perherals are by far the more expensive.

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2005-07-05 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
We need to get you a paid short story so you can write off some expenses...or a novel sold!

[identity profile] zara-elis.livejournal.com 2005-07-06 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Oh how true. Maybe I can come up with something quick while I'm there.

[identity profile] alfreda89.livejournal.com 2005-07-06 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, maybe something you've been working on inside for a long time will come to the surface!

[identity profile] zara-elis.livejournal.com 2005-07-06 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Given what I write, that could very well happen. There's always something dark and wonderful creeping around in the nethermost recesses of my brain.

Sorry that everything is hot and miserable

[identity profile] bevhale.livejournal.com 2005-07-05 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
We got rain for a couple of days and it brought the temperature down to 93- that sounds so ridiculous when you write it, but Oklahomans and Texans will understand.

It was great talking to you last night, sorry they lost your blood samples, hope things are better today. I'm praying for rain to go to your city, temperatures to drop and the blood tests to help pinpoint something they can fix so you will feel better. Will see you next month. Miss you.

Time to start playing the rainstorm CD.

This time the bloodwork seemed to go smoothly--the assistant herself did the draw, and she said she'd send me the tracking number after FedEx picked it up. So, we'll see if she remembers.
