So, when we last left our heroine, one of the ISPs in her life (and she hates almost every one of them) appeared to have relocated her client's files just when an important update was due. She goes through all correspondence with said ISP, but nothing came after the 11/28/07 message that claimed they would be moved in early December (wrong). A NY missive with no real info was the last thing received. No orders, no info. Nothing about a "security question." (Has anyone noticed they all want the same sort of things for security questions? An acquaintance taking notes about memes would be in business.)

So she spent 45 minutes of hers and "Alex Miller"'s time checking cookies, dumping cache, a test page going up -- still, there were files in the correct place in the tree for Alex that did not show up on her page. The FTP worked flawlessly. Their sys admin page showed intermittent problems with ws.14 server (the server I'd been using for years.) I suggested the local backbone was down. He insisted that the Bangalore location was up, and it was not the server.

Finally, poor "Alex" thought to say: "Here are the FTP info you should have. Is this what you are using?" FINALLY -- BREAKTHROUGH. Apparently the ISP had moved things within the past two weeks (since I uploaded 15 days ago without a problem) changed the entry portal address, and neglected to tell the sys admin (me). I was not uploading to the hot site.

Yes, you have guessed it -- there is still a site on another server, and I could still FTP into it, weeks after the change took place. Which is why, of course, the new pages didn't show. Wrong server.

I think I'll go put the final touch on the kitchen (macro chef shows tomorrow! Must recover stainless pan from the Hs!) and crater.

I hate computers.

So tell me -- what are the odds that an ISP that said they moved one of my nonprofit sites to a vDeck 3.0 admin panel in December was moving it tonight? And I've just uploaded a lot of important pages that, as usual, the client is running behind (as in A Day Late and A Dollar Short) as usual?

Could the universe be telling me to dump the web stuff, take the hit and have to cash retirement stuff, just for peace of mind?

God, I'm tired. And someone is coming at 10 am.

Have I mentioned how I hate computers?
