This from a tech list I'm on -- the woman who posted it works for the real company at the support site, but has nothing to do with the virus fraud -- so people get hooked, and then have to pay more to have the support company remove it.

Just an FYI about some recent very Dangerous viruses making even faster
rounds...

The following are touted as being "Software to REMOVE Viruses, Spyware, etc"
When in fact they are ACTUALLY what is called "Ransom Ware" (They get your
Credit Card info, twice sometimes...and send you to support where *I* work!
They actually send an email with My Company's Support Phone number in it
(1-800-PC-SUPPORT is our Number) So, people who fall for this, get charged
the fees, and then are sent to us -- and WE have to charge to remove the
viruses! And it isn't cheap! So we have to tell them to call their CC
company and report the Fraud...and of course, they don't want to pay us to
remove the viruses...but eventually, they DO call us back, because these
ransom ware's are VERY difficult to remove!!

So ANYTHING with these names (See Below) was given out by a TROJAN type
Virus(Usually one named Vundo) -- BEWARE, because once you PAY them, the
software gets installed and does all KINDS of damage to your system!

Here is a list of just SOME of the Viruses hitting computers this way and
getting CC and other Information from unsuspecting users:

VirusTrigger, Ultra Antivirus 2009, Antivirus Pro 2009,
Trojan-Keylogger.WIN32.Fung, Personal Defender 2009, WinDefender 2009, Real
Antivirus, Antivirus Sentry, AntiSpywareXP 2009, AntiSpy 2008, Antivirus
Plus Pro, Antispyware 2009, Security 2009, SpyProtector

I think some of these are pop-ups telling you that you're not protected enough -- and when you try to close the box, they take you to their web site! Keep trying to close -- if you close the web page, it goes away. It's tried me twice, but we run silent, so I think they're trolling with a wide net, as well as targeting certain kinds of Internet bridges. But remember -- ask friends who work professionally about any new software that intrigues you -- look for software review places like www.cnet.com.

With the economy s-l-o-w-i-n-g down, you definitely don't want your credit line screwed up!
