...they are asking wounded veterans for portions of their signing bonuses back. Wasn't this danger pay, that they could bank for their families in case they were seriously wounded? If they have to give it back, shouldn't that be said right up front?
I thought the "you've been in the National Guard on deployment for almost two years, but you're still one day shy of qualifying for the G.I. Bill" was really bad -- one of the best investments we ever made in our country, denied to current vets? Then there was the vet hospital disgrace, with Walter E. Reed exhibit A. Now, they want signing bonuses back?
If the vets of America are ready for a mass, peaceful demonstration, with their families and friends, I'm there.

UPDATE:
ebeeman says that this was a clerical error, and it has already been canceled by the Pentagon.

However -- there is still this:
"The Pentagon will not comment on allegations that thousands of other soldiers just sent home from Iraq and other invasions, including Afghanistan, will not receive these sorts of bills. They cannot comment on those cases."
