The question of fertility and SF....

A friend noted recently that she remembers me using low fertility with elves in a role-playing game, long ago, so the Nuala books didn't surprise her. Something new that I'm thinking my way through also includes that trope -- and here's still another article that may help explain why fertility taps at the back of my skull.

Note in this article that they mention that most Americans have measurable amounts of BPA in their urine. Then they say that studies with animals show problems with reproduction and with cancer linked to this stuff. And they go on to say enough about the men in the study and American amounts of this chemical to make you think -- wait a minute. . . .

Do I think we're poisoning ourselves, every day in many ways? Yes, I do. . . .

BPA is bad stuff no doubt! But without it, plastics don't harden right. We've had people return Nalgene water bottles broken and say hey these aren't very break proof. I thought they were supposed to be shatter-proof. Well they used to be when BPA was used. You could always complain to the company to put the BPA back in? LOL.

Peeps can be tards.

If it's never been pointed out to them, they just don't think about it. It's like knowing Teflon is great for cooking, but wondering if it really is bad once it gets scratched...and then watching Alton Brown do the Parrot Test, and going "$#%^ C$#)@! It IS bad when it's scratched or overheated!"

Most people are teachable -- a survival skill. But many are not!

In all honesty, this is a very mixed-feelings issue for me. Given that I consider overbreeding one of the worst problems facing humanity right now...

It is for me, too. But once we respect ourselves and our planet, I think population will fall into line. If we have enough time left.
