...but her Internet provider changed its access number, and she cannot get her oldest computer back on-line, or her late husband's OLD computer. Her I-MAC has died (at least the boot feature) and her computer whiz son is dealing with serious health issues and can't go down and help her with it.
She asked several of us to pass on that she's been bumped off the Internet for now, but would welcome phone calls. I won't put her information on a public site, but friends from SFWA, AggieCon and others, drop me a line and I will share her address and/or phone number.
And...any geek Texan with a zillion older computers and a bit of time? You might show up with one of them, put the access number in, and set the thing up for her. I fear that the only thing she's waiting for is to see her only biological grandchild for the first time -- Frank and son will visit this month. When people dream of their dead sleeping in their front bedroom, they've taken a step away from all of us and toward their last/next long-distance trip. A nurse checks on her once a week out at the old homestead, and keeps an eye on her meds, but the meds have side effects that Are Not Fun.
I would dig money out of the mattress to get her a new basic Mac, but I could not count on being able to set it up properly for her. Medical issues suck pond water.
Think good thoughts for Ardath. I'd much prefer her Passing after finishing a great story and submitting it, and having seen or talked with those of us who cherish her and have had lives too busy to put the breaks on.
