Over at Publisher's Weekly is An Ode to Staff put up by the owner of a small Indie bookstore. She mentions how each bookstore is different, and how these people make her store work and make it a richer experience as well. She can actually go on vacation somewhere with poor cell reception, knowing that these people have everything in hand. And that's a great gift.

Let's hear it for all the great people who recommend books!

From Publisher's Weekly on-line:

What with settling the estate, etc. it's not a good time for Tyrus Books to buy Busted Flush Press. About the only help I can think of we can give McKenna Jordan, owner of Murder By The Book bookstore in Houston, TX, would be to check out the great books over at Busted Flush Press.

I particularly recommend the David Handler mysteries!

Note that the bookstore had several serious offers, but people could not get the financing together in time. Is this part of the finance industry sitting on the money instead of starting to loan it out again?

I actually thought of a way to keep bookstores open. But it would take financing -- few could start it up on their own.
