Empathy is a trait worth cultivating.

"Comic artist Nate Swinehart said: “Being good to each other is so important, guys.” This one line statement was the only caption needed alongside his recently published comic about choosing your own destiny."

I'm sure it's fun, but now that I know that they gutted Chris Claremont's original story, I'm not in a hurry to see it.  This is KITTY'S story, isn't it?

Not anymore.

I'll go see the new Captain America instead.

XKCD nails it on the head, although my worst problems have been with the USPS overnight (don't bother -- no, really -- save the hysterical fee. Fed Ex is a much better bet.)

Over 200 people had already Liked it on Google Reader by the time I got up this AM. I don't know if this is in response to the delivery joke, the LoTR joke, or what. But a lot of people bonded over this silly sketch!

It could be worse! It could be fantasy! The June 15, 2011 post was drawn for us!

But only one category -- no overwhelming self, with too much to do.

I missed these homages to "Calvin & Hobbes" -- one of the great comics, in my opinion, and these interpretations do it proud.

...and where/how large libraries fit into the universe. Today's comic:

In the tradition of Bunditsu: The Art of Cat Arranging, Book View Café presents Ursula K. Le Guin's “Cat T'ai Chi.” In addition for the next three months, one of BVC's Thursday Specials will be Le Guin's comics, including "Pillow Book for Cats" and "Supermouse." These one-of-a-kind comics, exclusive to Book View Café, represent some of the more unusual offerings at the website which also has an early screenplay from Le Guin, “King Dog.”

“Cat Tai Chi” is currently available for reading on-line with plans to make it available as an e-book soon.

Ursula K. Le Guin's Powers won the 2009 Nebula Award for best novel of the year.

Have you ever stumbled across Women in Refrigerators?

This started it all off--from the web site:

"This is a list I made when it occurred to me that it's not that healthy to be a female character in comics. I'm curious to find out if this list seems somewhat disproportionate, and if so, what it means, really."

I should add that the parts I've read are not slamming writers for this--Marv Wolfman had some interesting thoughts on the topic, because the person who set up this site did ask the artists why the heavy slant to the women? But I buy Marv's comment--the men get to rise from the ashes to a new level, for the most part (Hal Jordan was robbed...) while women just get trashed out and don't recover. I am appalled to hear what happened to poor Starfire. She deserved better.

Do you read traditional comics? Did you ever? Had you noticed this trend? How did you respond to it?
