alfreda89: 3 foot concrete Medieval style gargoyle with author's hand resting on its head. (Warning Sign on a CA entrance to a parki)
John Scalzi has gathered some dandy links about Westboro "Baptist" "Church," all of which are worth following, including the comments over at Laughing Squid. Sounds like Phelps grew up in Hell, and raised his children there. We knew all that hate had to come from somewhere. But the post suggesting he is a "con man" could also be quite true (and makes sense, when you think about the machine required to get all these permits. We're talking a full-time job, there. And all legal under the laws of the land.) I hope the people planning to shield the mourners in Tucson read the post about the "con man" -- they need to understand that they cannot respond, they cannot even notice WBC -- they need to create their wall, and provide their music, and be attractive -- and unmoving -- scenery.

But let's be precise in our language. WBC may be legally a church, but it seems more like a satanic church to me -- representing the exact opposite of the most important tenets of Christianity. That's what satanists do -- mock and tear down everything good there is about Christianity. It's all very sad.

Note: There are people who are more deistic in their religious beliefs, and also people who worship Satan as a supernatural deity, who call themselves Satanists. I am not referring to them -- I'm referring to the so-called symbolic or casual satanist types who think that spitting on a cross makes them cool. Those people might have matured into the WBC, in a book out there somewhere....

Hard to picket a bunch of people who know Batman and Superman are make-believe, and aren't embarrassed to chant all kinds of really silly things right back at those idiots....
