alfreda89: 3 foot concrete Medieval style gargoyle with author's hand resting on its head. (Fires of Nuala book cover)
Yes, it is Thursday, and BVC has not rolled over into the 2.0 web site, so there's still a free chapter of Fires of Nuala up. If you haven't sampled it yet, now's your chance!

Sorry to be so quiet -- I have been feeling steadily worse since the new year began, but it hits Friday-Saturday mostly. This time it's hung on for a week. I'm not sure if my body simply isn't ready for two hours of light to moderate exercise, or if I'm picking up a new virus every week, or what, but I haven't slept for three nights and I have something monstrously important to do tomorrow morning.

Very tired of being ill, and getting afraid again, since I'm starting to think I'm relapsing. I can't. I just can't. I'm not out of the woods yet -- I can't fall into Mirkwood again.

Obviously I've been rolling downhill to spacey for over a week, because I didn't mention my essay at the Book View Cafe blog called Quality is Worth It, a Let the Gluten Go post.

When you give up gluten, you will quickly notice that your sense of taste works better. Suddenly salt and pepper can be overwhelming, and a host of taste buds you forgot you had will abruptly wave at you and say "How about a fresh balsamic vinegar with dinner?"

In this post, I make suggestions about where you want to put food money you're not spending on gluten junk. We're talking spices, oils, vinegars -- yum!

Take a look.

They only shacked up for something like 31 years first.

At this rate, I'll need to get a wedding icon! Did I mention that Ru Emerson and her Doug finally got hitched, after something like (A-hem) 34 or so years? And are very happy about it.

They are all blessed in each other.

In case you missed Roger Eberts' column on this, with a letter from the guy who should know -- Walter Murch, film editor and sound designer extraordinaire.

This explains why I get a blinding headache from 3D movies. I'll save my money for other things, thanks.

And yes, Avatar was a glorious feast for the eyes even in 2D.
