One week sans diet sweeteners!

So, how are you all doing sans Equal and the other culprits? I mentioned going without such stuff for two weeks, and my specialist thought it was a great idea. She believes that the stuff increases hunger pains. I've found that a square of diet cinnamon gum doesn't trigger the cravings like a piece of diet candy can. But otherwise, I'm doing without!

My diet pills are spicy!

These things work wonnnnderfully at keeping blood sugars level. Smells amazing, too. I don't push it all that often, but if I have a donut in the morning & take one of these, I manage to completely avoid the pre-lunch slump into grogginess:

Wow.

Glad you think it's helping. I've heard of the benefits of tumeric. I've used cinnamon in the past for blood sugar, and be very careful ramping up, or going off it. I had emotional waves slamming me into the pavement, and tears, when I started that stuff. Screwed up a possible job offer, too.

I avoid diet sweeteners altogether. Nothing but real sugar for me, thank you very much. And I'm trying to cut down on that, as well...

Good man.

I had a suspicious situation with diet candies triggering HUNGER, so I suggested everyone trying to use diet sodas/candies as part of their weight control think twice. We're having a 14 day layoff (this means one or two diet root beers I'm not having) to see if this might in fact be a contributor to not losing or maintaining weight.

Better cotton mouth than what that stuff might be doing to me.

I'm starting to jones for a diet coke, mainly because I actually like the taste. Only had a wish for diet Snapple once. I do notice I'm not drinking as much water as I usually do -- more coffee and hot tea. I suspect the diet coke triggers my "something cool" reflex.

So far, no change in the eating habits.

It may be that your system is already so balanced that diet sugars add only 50-100 calories of eating a day. That's enough to gain weight -- or not lose it -- but it's hard to gauge, without writing down everything. (Which, although useful, is time-consuming.)

Remember I don't even eat wheat or corn -- so the fact that my body occasionally DEMANDS carbs is not surprising. Your extras may be subtle.

my body demands high-fat periodically, as shown by the ice cream mentioned in my LJ. Everything else -- yeah, I take a lot of (mostly good-natured) ribbing about the fact that my diet's a little bit of everything and a lot of nothing, as it were. The essential rational omnivore.

except when it comes to pecan pie. Once a year I will eat myself sick on it.

except when it comes to pecan pie. Once a year I will eat myself sick on it.

Used to adore it. Now, most are made with corn syrup, so I don't. A friend actually made one with rice syrup last year, but it was too sweet for me -- so I ate all abandoned pecans littering the pie plate.

Do you remember the Seinfeld episode where they all had a "bet"? About 10 minutes into the bet Kramer walked in, slammed down his money and said, "I'm out." I caved. I had about 1/2 of a diet soda last weekend. But it wasn't my fault! I swear! Hubby brought it into the house! If it wasn't here, I wouldn't have sought it out! I'm innocent!!! ;-)

However, I have been doing well along the lines of snacking. No salty chips in the house and no diet sweeteners or anything that contains diet sweeteners. I bought lots of fruit for when I need a little something in the middle of the day. I'm working out differently because of an injury (I still need to post about it) so I can tell that I'm working different muscles. It's all good! I'll finally check the scales today after about two weeks of not looking. We'll see!

Remember to try and balance your workout. I've actually worked on a client who had one thigh more more developed than the other. She was not sure she could push that one as hard, and ended up visibly unbalanced.

Slow and easy......

[identity profile] cabin77.livejournal.com 2007-10-19 06:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I'm being careful. Anything I do (or don't do) with one side, I do (or don't do) with the other. I'm doing a lot of core work right now. I figure that can't hurt! And I'm balancing that with cardio on the elliptical. So far it's working for me. I lost 2.6 pounds since I weighed last (two weeks ago)! Slow and steady wins the race!

Whee!

Very good! Just the right way to lose. I wish I could go back to walking, but the foot thing is not cooperating. I can get the pain down to almost nothing if I sit and work -- but each time I walk, it flames again.

So, right now I am on meds and fat because of it!
