I had a perfectly lovely exchange about older Chinese and Japanese language choices for mentors, and dragons, with [livejournal.com profile] tylik and I didn't mark it as a memory, and now I can't find it.

**GRUMBLE**

Will have to look again after the move.

I'm behind on this, because I keep trying to go to the news sites. They have so many scripts trying to load that my system dives, and well, I return gratefully to Live Journal!

This was pinched from [livejournal.com profile] dancinghorse who pinched it from [livejournal.com profile] la_marquise_de_

The rules:

1. Go to page 77 (or 7th) of your current ms
2. Go to line 7
3. Copy down the next 7 lines – sentences or paragraphs – and post them as they’re written. No cheating.

The only way to make this have any sense at all was to go down seven sentences, and choose the next seven sentences. And you will still be wondering....

“Yes, they are welcome here. They may even attend classes discussing magic. After all, they may have a parent or siblings who do have talent. What if they should have a talented child? Sometimes the power sleeps for a generation or two. Something needs to be in the family lore – a letter in a family bible. Something.

Well, the meters are not cooperating for me. So -- current Allie 3 count, 87,359 words as counted by WORD.

I think this book will be 120,000 words. Just a guess. I think I know where I'm going!

Silence. I looked over my shoulder.
In the fading day, Mr. Smith actually looked pale. “We’re not going to try it again, are we?”
I blinked. “Of course we are. It’s the only way to know if we’re on the right track. Now, how did you begin?”
“We used much larger amounts of things,” he said doubtfully, looking at the containers that I set on the work table.
“Of course you did. But we don’t want to be chasing an entire pan of biscuits around the house, now do we?”

In which Allie has to prove that she knows something, anything, about rituals, by performing one...

“Of course you must be fast enough getting the circle up that nothing evil joins you in the circle,” came the professor’s voice.

True enough. I wasn’t dawdling, that was certain, but I was trying to be precise, so I didn’t leave anything out or look sloppy. But this suggested that I was a touch slow for him, so I dribbled faster, to get the first circle down quickly.

And then the room disappeared.
There's a little bit more -- )

And a Meme:

Turn to page 123 in your work-in-progress. (If you haven't gotten to page 123 yet, then turn to page 23. If you haven't gotten there yet, then get busy and write page 23.) Count down four sentences and then instead of just the fifth sentence, give us the whole paragraph.

I think the garage is drowning. Doom level: middling. No sign of leaks. (She says nervously looking up.) Knock on wood.
